Dr. Sungmin Cho is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU). His research focuses on China–Korean Peninsula relations, North Korea’s nuclear program, Korean unification, and the U.S. alliance in East Asia, with a close interest in the domestic politics of China and North Korea.

From 2018 to 2024, he served as a professor at the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, an academic institute of the U.S. Department of Defense in Honolulu, Hawaii. He previously taught at Georgetown University’s Asian Studies Program, offering courses on Chinese domestic politics and nuclear weapons in East Asia.

Dr. Cho’s research has appeared in leading journals such as World Politics, Democratization, and the Journal of Contemporary China. His policy analysis has been published in Foreign Affairs, The Washington Quarterly, and War on the Rocks, and he has contributed commentary for CSIS, Brookings, and NBR.

He received his Ph.D. in Government from Georgetown University, M.A. in International Relations from Peking University, and B.A. in Political Science from Korea University.
