Counselor for Oceans and Fisheries

Mr. Sangkil Lee is a Counselor for Oceans and Fisheries at the Korean Embassy in Washington D.C. Before joining the Embassy in 2020, Mr. Lee has worked for the South Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) for more than 20 years. He was mainly in charge of policy making in the shipping industry, ship finance, housing finance, and aquaculture sector. His previous positions included, Director of Aquaculture Industry Division, Director of Innovation and Administration Division, and Director of Planning and Coordinating.

Amid last global financial crisis in 2008, Counselor Lee led the Korean shipping industry’s restructuring and strengthening program. Recently, he has been making efforts to develop the Korean aquaculture sustainability. Counselor Lee earned his M.A. in Energy and Environmental Policy from the University of Delaware and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Seoul National University.
