November 5, 2019
Arirang News and Business Korea covered an event hosted at KEI on October 16 titled "The Effect of Korea-Japan Relations on Trade and the Global Economic Order." You can find the video of the event here.
The article from Arirang quoted Marcus Noland, a panelist at the event and vice president of the Peterson Institute for International Economics, who suggested that the U.S. government should play an active role in resolving the dispute between Korea and Japan because the World Trade Organization's problem-solving mechanism has limitations.
Meanwhile, Business Korea highlighted panelist Stephen Ezell, vice president of global innovation policy at the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), who forecasted that Japan’s export restrictions will motivate Korean chipmakers to significantly reduce material supplies from Japan and lead China to push for self-sufficiency in semiconductors.
