KEI Board Member William B Brown Assesses Yongbyon with CNBC

Speaking with CNBC, KEI board member and non-resident fellow Professor William B Brown noted that the offer from North Korea at the Hanoi Summit to dismantle Yongbyon for the lifting of recent sanctions was insufficient. Professor Brown explains that Yongbyon – while it has played a key role in developing North Korea's nuclear weapons program – is not the only facility producing fissile materials. Professor Brown concludes that Kim Jong-un overextended his hand because he misinterpreted the political position that President Trump faced domestically. Going forward, Brown believed that a multilateral process will be important to continue discussions.
