On May 10th, 2022, Yoon Suk Yeol was sworn in as the 20th president of the Republic of Korea. President Yoon came to office at a time of crisis. Koreans continued to feel the effects of the pandemic on their daily lives and the economy —many of the issues that animated the campaign, such as the rising cost of living, jobs, and gender equality have presented persistent challenges for the new president. On the international stage, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and China’s growing assertiveness were rapidly reshaping Korea’s foreign policy options.

To look more deeply at the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for the Yoon Administration in this pivotal time, KEI has turned to a range of experts to explore the outlook on 10 critical issues facing the Republic of Korea over the next five years.
