Under the Moon administration, South Korea has taken a series of steps to address its carbon emissions. Last year, South Korea committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2050, and at the recent COP26 climate summit committed to deeper emissions reductions by 2030. At the U.S.-Korea summit meeting in May, South Korea also committed to working with the United States to address climate change. These represent the country’s contributions to the global effort to prevent average global temperatures from rising more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
Please join KEI for a discussion with Ambassador Kim Hyoeun, South Korea’s ambassador for climate change at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, of the steps South Korea has taken to address climate change and how it is working with the United States and other partners to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
