South Korea hosted the first-ever Korea-Africa Summit earlier this month, reinforcing South Korea’s interest in forging stronger relationships with African nations. While Korea is somewhat of a latecomer in engaging with African countries, there is hope for strategic collaboration with the continent in order to bolster South Korea’s position as a global pivotal state.
KEI Operations Manager Mai Pressley sat down with Steven Sungyong Heo, founder and CEO of Africa Insight, and Dr. Lloyd G. Adu Amoah, Director of the Centre for Asian Studies at the University of Ghana, to discuss the summit’s aftermath, implications of Korea’s pivot to Africa, and possibilities for future economic, diplomatic and cultural cooperation.
