Ki Suh Jung was born in Seoul, Republic of Korea (ROK) and grew up in Ridgewood, New Jersey. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Government from Dartmouth College and a Master of International Public Policy from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. He was commissioned into the United States Navy through Officer Candidate School and designated as a surface warfare officer in April 2013. He redesignated as a foreign area officer in August 2018. As a surface warfare officer, Ki Suh’s assignments at sea include auxiliaries officer and gunnery officer onboard USS MUSTIN (DDG 89) and training officer onboard USS BARRY (DDG 52), both of which were forward-deployed to Yokosuka, Japan.
Ashore, he served as an experimentation officer at the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center’s Integrated Air and Missile Defense Division in Dahlgren, Virginia.
Following his redesignation as a foreign area officer, Ki Suh served as an alliance strategy and policy officer at the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command in Seoul, ROK; strategy and policy officer at U.S. Naval Forces Korea in Busan, ROK; and legislative fellow in Washington, DC.
Ki Suh assumed his current duties as a military advisor at the U.S. Department of State in January 2025.
