Edward J. Shultz is professor emeritus at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. He first came to Korea as a Peace Corps volunteer in 1966, after graduating from Union College in New York, and lived in Pusan, South Korea. On receiving his PhD in 1976 from the University of Hawai’i, he taught at the University of Hawai’i until he retired in August 2013. His major area of research is Koryo history (918–1392) with a special interest in social, institutional, and political history.
