In the aftermath of North Korea’s sixth nuclear test and two intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) tests, the United States and South Korea will need to work as closely as ever as the alliances uses economic pressure and negotiations to manage the North Korea crisis. At the same time, the alliance will need to manage the renegotiation of the KORUS FTA and a reduction of the trade deficit without undermining security cooperation at a critical time.
As North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs reach a critical stage and the United States and South Korea begin renegotiating the FTA, please join KEI for a discussion of the critical choice the U.S.-Korea alliance faces regarding sanctions policy, negotiations, and deterrence, or whether to the use military force against North Korea will be necessary, as well as the key issues in the renegotiation of the U.S.–Korea FTA.
