Three FTAs, Four Experts

October 21, 2011

The FTAs & the Future of American Trade Policy

October 18, 2011 – Korea Economic Institute hosted a panel, introduced by Troy Stangarone, Korea Economic Institute, and moderated by Judge Morris, The Global Business Dialouge, discussing the recent passage of the three FTAs (Korea, Panama, Columbia).

Six days after the long pending free trade agreements with Korea, Colombia, and Panama sailed through the House and Senate, KEI and the Global Business Dialogue co-hosted an event discussing how those those involved in trade need to wrestle with the lessons-learned question "What happened?" and the even more urgent one "What next?".

In addition to these two broad topics, the panel also conversed on the implications of votes for the WTO, TPP, and the future of U.S. Trade Policy.

The members of the panel were:

Wendy Cutler, Office of the United States Trade Representative
Angela Ellard, Committee on Ways and Means
Brian Pomper, Akin Gump Strauss Hower & Feld
John Murphy, U.S. Chamber of Commerce

The event was mentioned by several Korean and English language news sources, including:

You can listen to the audio from the event here. Please note that Angela Ellard's remarks were off the record, therefore they were edited out of the recording.
