KEI President Stephens Looks Back on Ambassadors' Dialogue

April 22, 2019

In her latest column for Joongang Ilbo, KEI President Kathleen Stephens highlighted the Ambassadors' Dialogue program and its merits. Since 1992, KEI organized an annual trip across the United States for the U.S. ambassador serving in Korea and their Korean counterpart in the United States. The objective of the trip is for the two ambassadors to directly engage with the American public and discuss the bilateral relationship.

This year, Ambassadors Harry Harris and Cho Yoon-je were joined on the tour by President Stephens, herself once a participant in the program during her tenure as Ambassador to Korea. In the Joongang Ilbo columnm, she recollects the changes that have taken place in the bilateral relationship in the past 10 years.

In particular, she points to the multi-generational Korean-American communities, K-pop, and initiatives like the Visa Waiver Program and the WEST internship program as sources of the bilateral relationship's growing strength.
