KEI President Kathleen Stephens Cited in Joongang Ilbo

Korea’s Joongang Ilbo cited remarks from KEI President and CEO Kathleen Stephens in its coverage of the CSIS Forum in early October.
Speaking on the conflict between Korea and Japan, Ambassador Stephens noted that the Trump administration’s weaponization of trade established a harmful precedent that Tokyo emulated in its engagement with Seoul. She added that South Korea’s exit from GSOMIA could also be seen as shadowing the U.S. administration’s habit of leaving multilateral agreements.
She sees a vital role for the U.S. government to act as an intermediary in the ongoing Korea-Japan dispute.
