Don Manzullo Honored with International Terminal Name

February 25, 2013

Don Manzullo, Rockford’s congressman for two decades before he retired on Jan. 3, knew he was being honored Tuesday night at Chicago Rockford International Airport. What he didn’t know was the surprise that the 200 airport and community leaders gathered in the main terminal passenger boarding lounge had in store for him. Airport Director Mike Dunn introduced a Graham Spencer video production honoring Manzullo for his many contributions to the airport’s growth in the past 20 years, including securing funds and U.S. Customs inspection service for the third international terminal in Illinois. (The others are at O’Hare International and Midway airports.) The terminal opened in 2006.

Then Dunn switched to a live camera positioned in front of the international terminal about a football field away. The sign was covered by a large sheet. When the crowd counted down from 10 to zero, the sheet was hauled down revealing the sign, which said, “Donald A. Manzullo International Terminal.”
