Atlantic Magazine Cites Peninsula Blog Article on Sanctions

April 11, 2019

In an article on South Korea's approach to facilitating U.S.-DPRK talks in a post-Hanoi environment, Atlantic Magazine cites a Peninsula Blog piece by Troy Stangarone that addresses the difficulties associated with lifting sanctions on Kaesong Industrial Complex or inter-Korean tourism to Mt. Kumgang.

The Atlantic correspondent specifically brings attention to Stangarone's conclusion that despite the prominence of these two projects, lifting sanctions on these sites would require numerous complicated exemptions. Although not mentioned in the Atlantic article, Stangarone though concludes in the Peninsula blog that if one of the two must be chosen, tourism to Mt. Kumgang would be the easier path as it does not require as many exemptions on trade and industry.
