Background of the Program

The OECD recently released its Economic Survey of Korea 2014. The OECD projects that Korea’s economy will grow by about 4% in 2014-15, following the slowdown in 2011-12. However, the Survey argues that Korea must address a range of structural and social challenges to ensure its long-term economic prospects. Such challenges include rapid population aging, income inequality, low service sector productivity and weak small and medium-sized enterprises.

Is a new growth strategy to foster a creative economy essential to sustain growth? What are the obstacles to fostering a creative economy? How can Korea ensure that growth is socially-inclusive?
