Korea Economic Institute of America Presents:

President Moon’s Policy towards North Korea: Working with the United States for Peace and Security on the Korean Peninsula

Read Event Description

Event Date

February 26th, 2019 12:00pm - 12:00am ET

Event Description

After three inter-Korean summits and one U.S.-North Korea summit, President Donald Trump announced that his next meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will take place in Vietnam on February 27-28, 2019, to further steps towards denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula and U.S.-DPRK relations. With South Korea most affected by any outcome from the diplomatic dialogue between the U.S. and North Korea, Dr. Moon provides a unique perspective and insight into the thinking of the current government in Seoul as the peace process continues to unfold.

What are President Moon’s policy approaches to achieve his objectives of a new relationship with North Korea? How can the U.S. and the Republic of Korea align themselves to ensure that both countries can achieve their respective objectives? How should the two nations incorporate the priorities and interests of neighboring countries in northeast Asia in dealing with North Korea?

Please join KEI for a discussion on President Moon Jae-in’s policy towards North Korea and how the U.S. and South Korea can work together as President Trump prepares for his second summit meeting with Kim Jong-un.
