Mr. Dalla, joined by Professor Park, discussed the book he coauthored with Mr. Yoo, JaeHoon, who is now in a senior position at Korea’s Financial Services Commission. Korea has one of the largest and most open and diversified bond markets in the world. The scheduled entry into effect in early 2009 of the Capital Market Consolidation Act suggests that the Korean capital market could become a more important element in Korean and possibly regional financial markets. Yet, the authors identified a number of challenges to this prospect. Another key issue addressed was how Korea’s bond market and policies affecting the market would react to the still-unfolding financial stresses.
