Event Description

The Korea Economic Institute and the U.S.-Korea Business Council are glad to invite you to a discussion of U.S.-ROK relations with Governor Kim Moon-soo of Gyeonggi Province. Governor Kim, a prominent Korean governor, has a long and distinguished record in Korean politics, and has received numerous awards from public interest groups, the media, and the business community. He leads Gyeonggi Province, which is located at the center of the Korean Peninsula and surrounds Seoul. The region represents one-third of Korea’s workforce, one-fifth of its GDP, and is a leading destination for trade and investment in the Korean economy. Gyeonggi Province is the home to well known Korean companies such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, and Hyundai-Kia Motors.

In his remarks, Governor Kim will discuss the importance of the KORUS FTA for continued long-term economic cooperation between the United States and Korea, as well as the already vibrant economic cooperation in trade and investment between the United States and Korea’s most populace province, Gyeonggi. In addition, Governor Kim will provide an update on the progress of the transfer of U.S. Forces Korea from Seoul to Pyeongtaek in Gyeonggi Province and discuss the significance of this move for overall U.S.-ROK relations.
