Troy Stangarone on East Asia Forum discussing the challenges ahead for U.S. negotiators

Writing for the East Asia Forum, KEI Senior Director Troy Stangarone notes that the real hard work is ahead for the Trump administration's engagement with North Korea. At the prospective second summit between President Trump and Kim Jong-un, Stangarone believes progress must be made towards North Korea providing international observers with an inventory of its stockpile of fissile materials and any hidden production sites. Simultaneously, Stangarone writes that the White Houses should prepare to make concessions on maximum pressure, provoviding gradual sanctions relief for actions that North Korea is willing to make.
