KEI Senior Director Troy Stangarone highlights the breakthroughs achieved through sports diplomacy between South and North Korea. In particular, Stangarone highlights North Korea's attendance at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics as the point at which Pyongyang "opened the door" for negotiations. However, he underscored concerns that this approach to engagement could be losing its effectiveness in the absence of sanctions relief to allow for inter-Korean economic cooperation.
