Following her remarks at Oberlin's 2019 Global Issues Symposium on “Militarization and Demilitarization on the Korean Peninsula," Ambassador Katheleen Stephens spoke with the Oberlin Review on the importance of the U.S.-ROK relationship. She emphasized the influential role that the United States has had on the modern history of Korea while simultaneously pointing to a new phase in the relationship where South Korea is taking a more prominent role in guiding developments on the Korean Peninsula, taking the lead in mediating engagement between North Korea and the United States.
