KEI on the U.S. midterm elections
November 13, 2018
Following the U.S. mid-term elections, Korean media looked to KEI for analysis of the outcome.
Executive Director Phil Eskeland told Chosun Ilbo that the control of the House of Representatives by the Democratic Party may make it more difficult for the Trump administration to be flexible on partial lifting of sanctions.
KEI non-resident fellow Kim Yonho underscored to CBS that the subpoena powers endowed to the Democrats through the control of the House of Representatives will pose enormous pressures on the Trump Administration. The potential consequence of this dynamic could be the halting of U.S. engagement with North Korea as the political scrutiny on other domestic issues overtake the administration's attention.
