An article featured on the Investor about Huawei's role in helping North Korea build its wireless network cited former KEI non-resident fellow Yonho Kim's research on cellphone penetration in the country – particularly the fact that network users are estimated to be 5 million people.
This article builds on the recent report by the Korea Institute for National Unification that Koryolink, using Huawei equipment, has built a national network with 453 base stations covering 14 major cities, including Pyongyang, 86 smaller cities and 22 highways over three years.
