On September 2, KEI President and CEO Kathleen Stephens penned a column for the JoongAng Daily that drew attention to South Korea’s evolution as a middle power during the U.S. intervention in Afghanistan. She underscored how Afghanistan was an early and important recipient of South Korea’s growing overseas development assistance – in turn, the country helped shape Korea’s emergence on the global stage as a more confident actor.
