Biography
Gu Sang Kang is an associate research fellow at the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP). He received his B.A. from Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea and M.A. and Ph.D. from the Department of Economics at the University at Albany, State University of New York (SUNY).
His main research interests include industrial organization and economics of innovation, specifically the impacts of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) on innovation outcomes. He is also interested in firms’ innovation activities in the era of the fourth industrial revolution. Based on his research interests, he has participated in research projects at the KIEP including "Policies and Institutions of Major Countries for Innovation-led Growth," "The Impacts of Relationship between Main Contractors and Subcontractors on Innovation," "The Effects of Technological Similarity and Diversity on Merger and Innovation," and "Analysis of Competition Policies between U.S. and EU in the Era of Inter-Industry Convergence."
