Our Team

Haeyoon Kim is a Non-Resident Fellow at the Korea Economic Institute (KEI). Before joining KEI, she worked at the Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI) office in Washington, DC, managing projects related to US-Asia trade and economic policy, as well as initiatives on women’s empowerment.

Prior to ASPI, Haeyoon worked for the Korean Foreign Ministry, serving as a senior economic researcher at the Korean Embassy in DC and as a political researcher at the Korean Consulate General in New York. She also contributed to the organizing committee for the 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games in PyeongChang as an interpreter and communication manager. Earlier in her career, she worked for English newsrooms in Seoul, including the Korea JoongAng Daily and Arirang TV. Additionally, she served as a board member of the Asian American Journalists Association’s Seoul chapter.

Haeyoon’s written works have been featured in The Diplomat, South China Morning Post, Nikkei Asia, and The Hill. She also regularly authored country reports on Korea for The Asan Forum. In 2021, she served as a Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization Youth Group Research Fellow and co-published in the Journal for Peace and Nuclear Disarmament.

Haeyoon holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
