Florence Lowe-Lee has been the Director of Finance and Publications of the Korea Economic Institute since joining KEI in 1992. She is responsible for managing KEI’s finances and human resources, and for production of its annual and monthly publications. Ms. Lowe-Lee also monitors and writes articles on Korea’s social issues, such as women’s role and their impact on the Korea’s economy, labor market conditions and the social safety net, and the aging of Korea society. She writes a column on Korea’s Economic Trends section for KEI’s monthly newsletter, Korea Insight. She oversees programming involving emerging leaders from Korea and the United States and the visits of Korean government officials.   

Prior to joining KEI, Ms. Lowe-Lee worked as Deputy Director of Operations for the Massachusetts Senate Ways and Means Committee where she participated in senior committee decision-making process and coordinated the production of budget recommendations and served as an adviser to the Massachusetts Office of International Trade and Investment in its effort to launch mission to Korea. She was involved in organizing the first travel of a Massachusetts governor to Korea, preparing a “Massachusetts Fact Book” which the Governor used as promotional material during his visit Korea and other countries.

Earlier, Ms. Lowe-Lee worked as Research Assistant at the Neuroanatomy and Neuroendocronoloy laboratory of Rockefeller University in New York City. She carried out experiments involving rat brains using various bio techniques and co-authored several articles that were published in Science, Neuroscience, and other scientific journals.

Ms. Lowe-Lee holds a B.A. in Neuroscience from Mount Holyoke College and received an M.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Columbia University. She is married to Dr. Paul Cheong Lee, Communication Officer at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). They have two young daughters and reside in South Riding, VA.
